Schon vor der Fertigstellung des neuen Berliner Flughafens BER steht für Lufthansa fest, man in der Bundeshauptstadt kein weiteres Drehkreuz einrichten will.
Der noch fertigzustellende Hauptstadtflughafen BER sei zu klein, um von großer Bedeutung für den bundesdeutschen Luftverkehr zu sein, so die Worte von Lufthansa-Vorstandsmitglied Harry Hohmeister kürzlich in einem Interview mit der Berliner Morgenpost. Zudem sei ein weiterer Knotenpunkt neben München,
Frankfurt, Zürich und Wien nicht nötig. Ein fünftes Drehkreuz sei nicht zweckmäßig, da müsse man ehrlich sein, so Hohmeister.
Zwar sollen von Berlin aus künftig auch Interkontinentalflüge angeboten werden, so viele Langstreckenflugzeuge wie etwa ex München sollen es aber nicht sein.
Mittel- und langfristig würde die Lufthansa-Gruppe, zu der auch Eurowings, Austrian Airlines und Swiss gehören, die deutsche Hauptstadt trotzdem häufiger anfliegen als bisher. Dies könne allerdings ab nächsten Sommerflugplan gewährleistet werden. Das alles brauche eine gewisse Vorlaufzeit, so das Lufthansa-Vorstandsmitglied.
