From the 23rd of June until the 1st of September 2018 the “summer full of music” will be back. The 31st season of the Rheingau Music Festival will be marked by “friendship”. 149 concerts will be held at 40 venues of the romantic Rheingau and neighboring regions.
Main venues are the Eberbach Abbey, Johannisbeg Castle, Vollrads Castle and the Kurhaus Wiesbaden but also numerous churches and wineries.
High-caliber artists will again give their performances at the festival. As Artist in Residence, soprano Annette Dasch will present her musical spectrum in six events with music from Beethoven to Lehár. The oboist Albrecht Mayer will be the focus artist for six events with music from Vivaldi to Britten. The focus series with the composer and violist Brett Dean ist to be immersed in five events deeper into his musical cosmos.
“Fokus Jazz” 2018 will focus on five of the currently most popular piano trios: Brad Mehldau Trio, Jason Moran & The Bandwagon, David Gazarov Trio, Omer Klein Trio and the Tingvall Trio.
The main topics “Claude Debussy: 100th anniversary of death”,”Next Generation” and “Expedition Sound” are also in the foreground. With the series “Leonard Bernstein: 100th Birthday” the round commemoration day of the legendary American composer is used as a reason for a musical portrait in which the greatest works of the gifted artist are played an Bernstein´s life an work are examined in detail.
Lufthansa is again the Official Airline of the Rheingau Music Festival. Media partners of the festival are the Hessische Rundfunk and Deutschlandradio. Concerts are also broadcast in 3sat. jwm
